Senator Martin Heinrich and Senator-Elect Ben Ray Luján are accepting applications for positions on the District Court for the District of New Mexico, the Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit, and the United States Attorney for the District of New Mexico. One of the purposes of NMBLA is to "improve the administration of justice"; our executive board sent the attached letters to the Senators in order to do just that. We promise to remain true to our purpose and are proud to support black attorneys and judges in our state.
If you would like to send a letter in support of the appointment of an individual from the membership who has applied for a position, please let us know as soon as possible and we will make sure you receive the information to do so (firstname.lastname@example.org).
NMBLA asks you to encourage any current high school juniors or seniors to compete in the Drum Major for Justice Competition. This competition includes both an essay and oral advocacy component and requires students to present their thoughts on what Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. would think about an emerging legal issue.
If Dr King were alive today, would he support the call to defund police departments across the Nation as a reform to police brutality? If so, explain why? If not, explain why?
Check our Scholarships page for the essay details and requirements.
